Literature, Internet, veterans had warned me: driving an outfit is a new
technique unlike any other.
Well, it's worse than I thought.
Anguish of the right turn.
Handlebars that tries to escape when I brake, accelerate or turn.
The wobble of the outfit to each gear change.
Panic when by chance I overtake an vehicle (tractor or cyclist) going slow
and must turn to the right. I have the sidecar wheel off anguish.
And yet I persist because I like:
The riding position.
The anachronistic aesthetics of the outfit.

It's getting better and better.
I can avoid potholes.
I have less anxiety.

1 000 to 4 000km
I master the outfit.
I ride in the flow of car.
Incidents:
No shock absorber.
Shock absorber head is unscrewed.
Other problem.
Rust after winter outings.

4 000 to 6 000km
New engine hiccup.
I work firmly on the connector.
The engine hiccup stop.
It shift the Ural from Nièvre to Landes (600 km, 375miles)....... the outfit on
a trail.
Shock absorber head is still unscrewed.
After reassembling with threadlock it seems to be solid.
The rust on the chrome are removed with a special chemical for stainless
steel ("Miror Argentil")

6 000 to 10 000 km
New engine hiccup.
I work more firmly on the connector with pincers and twist the connector.
I no longer select my gas suppliers (supermarket or service station).
The front is worn with a marked wear on the right.

10 000 to 16 000 km
11 900 km: I increase the lean out.
13 300 km: large leak fuel. Hoses are cracked. Changing fuel lines.
14 500 km: not start even standing on the kick; it does not fall.
One of the cylinder is full with gas. This problem is due to a fault: fuel tap
vacuum remains open and a carburetor problem.

16 000 to 22 700 km
Horn is dead. I change it for a car horn more efficient.
17 300 km: new increase of the lean out. Direction becomes neutral.
To change the look and reduce weight, I remove the spare wheel support. I fix
bars to fasten luggage.
20 000 km: to adjust the carburetor synchronization. I made a differential
vacuum gauge.
The left carburetor give a smaller depression than the right. It's due to lack
of airtight between the cylinder and de pipe. I put a join compound. After I can
obtain the carburetor synchronisation.

Assembling of a battery master switch.
... 27 500 km
The Ural has a new look summer with small windshield and removing passenger
seat and footrests.
Consumption decreases less 7.5 l/100 km (31.4 miles/gallon)

Adding a luggage rack. I design and built it with flat irons few bolts.

More hiccups.
The engine hiccups and accelerate abruptly. It's due to a random contact
between ignition cord and left spark plug.
Puncture.
50 km from my home, I've got a puncture. Of course i have no spare-wheel.
Following this incident I design a system to remove quickly spare-wheel and
luggage rack.
It's very simple and requires only 4 nuts.

Infrared thermometer.
Ural may be subject to engine, oil, brakes or final drive overheating.
I acquired this little infrared thermometer limited to 220°C (428 °F). I have
an other more sophisticated for elaborate analysis.

Final drive, blocking and breaking
The rear wheel block. I control brakes and bearing. I change oil in the final
drive.
After a new test, the housing will get broken.
I disassemble, and see the disaster.
I think it is a manufacturing or design defect. I hope Irbit had correct this
big defect on new products.
An artisan welds an aluminium piece with TIG.
I assemble all parts except the motor mechanism of the sidecar wheel.
